About Our Church
The Beginning of One In Christ:
Our church is the result of the merging of Verde Valley Evangelical Free Church and Mingus Baptist Church, in 2002.
The Verde Village Community Bible Church began with 16 people meeting in Pastor’s John Cowles home in 1973. The name was shortened later to Verde Village Bible Church. A few months later, the church became affiliated with the Evangelical Free Church.
The Growing Years:
The current sanctuary was built in 1990, and was called the Verde Valley Evangelical Free Church. Pastor Robert and Nancy Allen were called in 1992.
The Mingus Baptist Church’s first service was held in 1986, meeting in the historic Clemenceau School in Cottonwood. They moved into a permanent building on Western Drive in 1987, purchasing the buildings in 1992. Pastor Steve and Kate Baker were called in 1997.
With the inspiration of the two congregations and their pastors, they felt God’s leading to serve together. This was a two year process which included much prayer and planning. The basic doctrines of the churches were very similar and members felt that they could work well together to more effectively further the Kingdom of Christ. This merger went smoothly and the two congregations soon truly became One in Christ.
